|Frequently Asked Questions
What is RacingTNT?
RacingTNT is a British Triathlon Federation registered team active in the Sheffield and Peak District Areas, that offers coaching, training events and triathlon camps aimed mainly at Novice and Tri-Newbies. All abilities are welcome.
How do I join RacingTNT?
Come along to a training event, coached session or local race and talk to other members and get an idea of what triathlon’s all about. At any point contact Matt Norris, who will give you all the necessary info to join the tri club. There is no joining fee or membership charge. You are free to race for RacingTNT Triathlon Team as soon as you are on the mailing list.
Is there a social life outside triathlon?
Yes, do visit the ‘Social’ section for regular updates.
Visit our FACEBOOK page for updates.
What equipment and kit do I need to get started?
Nothing too fancy to start with. Swim gear, a roadworthy bike (preferably a road bike but a mtb is ok in smaller club races and RacingTNT coached sessions), bike helmet (mandatory in ALL races and training sessions) and running kit with a good pair of running shoes. Don’t worry about wetsuits at this early stage. There are loads of sprint distance pool based races to get you started. We also hire out wetsuits for £5 per session at our open water swim venue, Tyram Lakes. Visit Tyram Lakes Open Water Swim Centre on Facebook.
What costs are involved?
You do not need to shell out thousands to get involved! Your main outlay will be your bike. Expect to
pay between £400-£2000 for a decent road bike.
Do visit JE James cycles (RacingTNT's associate sponsor),
Sheffield (tel:0114 292 3104) or Chesterfield (tel: 01246 457184)
Their Performance Centre in Sheffield is packed with triathlon gear and RacingTNT members receive a 10% discount.
Also remember that races cost money to organise so there is a small matter of entry fees! These vary considerably. RacingTNT events and coached sessions are cheap and some instances FREE to members. See ‘Coaching’ on this website for bi-monthly session coaching timetable.
How fit do I need to be?
In good general health and moderately fit. Don’t think you need to come in to the sport super-mega fit. But a basic level of training will need to have been ‘bagged’ before racing.
Email: email@example.com for additional information.
How much training do I need to do?
Two or three times a week will be plenty to start with. A general build-up of endurance takes time and fitness will come with enjoying your training with other RacingTNT members.
How intense are club training sessions?
